History

At the time of Consaer ...
The consortium Consaer was established in 1965 with the aim of achieving the new calabrian airport barycentricly located in the territory, with large flat spaces available near the Autostrada del Sole, the national rail network and especially the huge port of Gioia Tauro, and located in town of Lamezia, booming population and industry. The inauguration of the airport back in June 1976. In December of that year, the activation of the first scheduled services to Rome Ciampino, Milan, Catania and Palermo Itavia operated by the company. Dates, however, until 1982 the opening of the large and modern airport finally configured.

In 1990 to Consaer happens Sacal SpA, Calabrian Airport Company, which comes into full operation in April'91. The 67.08% of the shares is in the hands of public institutions, the remaining 32.92% are held by private investors such as ADR SpA The activity of Lamezia Terme is based on scheduled services to Rome and Milan operated by Alitalia and AIRONE; Airone and always has activated a daily link with Bologna. In the summer Alpi Eagles Calabria connects with the north-east through a point-point-Lamezia Venice.

Developments
The air handling to / from Lamezia has long been a positive trend, with a steady growth factors related to logistics (the alternative to access in Calabria, highway and rail, given the distances to travel, are not particularly easy or cheap) and at the same basin, which covers the traffic stop. In Canada, in fact, in Toronto, there is a large community of Calabrian origin that feeds a large number of flights operated by the airline Skyservice directly from the provincial capital of Ontario to Lamezia in the period from May to October .

The future
The airport is structurally well-organized and can manage up to 2 million passengers. The airport has recently been restructured and a new terminal welcomes passengers arriving at Lamezia. They are, however, plans for further action, in some stage of completion, which will make even more comfortable and functional the airport: building the lengthening of the runway to fly from the current 2340 meters to 3.000 meters that will allow aircraft "wide body" to work on call Lametini unrestricted load, restructuring and enlargement dell'aerostazione goods, expansion of the apron parking of aircraft, the construction of hangars for aviation activities.
